ECCO was the creative dream of Danish shoemaker Karl Toosbuy. Karl worked as a manager in a shoe factory, but was unsatisfied with the traditional way shoes were manufactured. He envisioned a shoe that was made to fit the foot rather than just cover it, and this vision led him to quit his job, move his wife and daughter into a small house next to an empty factory, and begin designing shoes of his own. Karl’s determination and innovative spirit paid off, guiding ECCO from a small business with 16 employees to a flourishing global corporation. Today, Karl’s daughter owns the company, and ECCO still holds dear the values of bold innovation, hard work, and commitment to quality.
